Piper on Worship Being Ultimate

Worship Is Ultimate

The WORSHIP QUOTE OF THE WEEK comes from the first chapter of John Piper's book LET THE NATIONS BE GLAD (Baker Books). John Piper was senior pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn't. Worship is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever."

Or you could say it this way: "The purpose of the Church is not evangelism. Rather, the purpose of evangelism is to build the Church, to extend the worshipping community." Pray that God will use your church's missionaries (and us) in the important task of drawing men and women, boys and girls to the one who alone is worthy of our worship.

Have a great week,
